Interested in hearing updates from MPS, celebrating the contributions of a local psychologist, and learning more about common complaints made against psychologists and key risk management strategies to safeguard your practice?  Then be sure to register for MPS's virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM) being held on Thursday March 21 from 5:30 - 8:00 pm. There is no cost to attend this event.

Congratulations to Dr. Jeffery Harvey
Recipient of the 2024 President's Award

In addition to the business meeting and annual student poster competition, we'll also be presenting the President's Award to Dr. Jeffery Harvey in recognition of his years of exceptional service to MPS.  Dr. Harvey joined MPS in 2014 and since that time has held several positions including Public Education Coordinator, Communications Director, and Membership Director.  We hope you will join us in recognizing Dr. Harvey's exceptional service to MPS.

Following the business meeting, Wudassie Tamrat and Lindsay Kary will be presenting:

Complaints Against Psychology Practitioners: What to Expect and How to Deal with Them

Did you know? Most of the claims made under the CPA/CPAP liability insurance program are to defend against College complaints. On March 21st, join CPA/CPAP’s legal and insurance partners, Gowlings WLG LLP and BMS Canada, as they review the common complaints made against psychologists and psychological associates and key risk management strategies to safeguard your practice. Ask questions and learn more about how the CPA/CPAP liability insurance program protects you with tailored coverage and specialist legal representation.

Wudassie Tamrat is an associate lawyer with Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office, practising in the Advocacy department. Wudassie’s practice focuses on key areas of health law, including medical defence and privacy law. Through her medical defence practice, Wudassie regularly represents and advises clients on a variety of issues before their regulatory Colleges and before the courts (namely the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Divisional Court). Wudassie has also represented clients before administrative tribunals such as the Health Professions Appeals and Review Board, the Human Rights Tribunal, the federal Privacy Commissioner and the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.

Lindsay Kary is a Director at BMS Canada Risk Services, the specialist brokerage providing insurance and risk management solutions to regulated and health professionals across Canada, including over 12,000 psychologists and psychological associates through the CPA/CPAP program. A Registered Insurance Broker, Lindsay leads the BMS client service team and works closely with CPA/CPAP members on a daily basis to provide advice and guidance specific to each member’s unique practice circumstance.

Attendance at psychology association business meetings as well as education events may be considered continuing education credits for registration with the Psychological Association of Manitoba (PAM).  Please arrange to complete the verification of attendance form with a colleague if you wish to claim continuing education credits as MPS will not be issuing certificates.  Additional information regarding CE credits can be obtained through PAM

Looking forward to seeing you on March 21!
