Kevin Kelloway is the Canada Research Chair in Occupational Health Psychology and Professor of Psychology at Saint Mary’s University and President-Elect of the Canadian Psychological Association. He received his PhD from Queen’s University in Organizational Psychology and has taught at both the University of Guelph and Saint Mary’s University. A prolific researcher, he is a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science, the Canadian Psychological Association, the International Association of Applied Psychology and the Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology. In addition to his academic duties he maintains an active consulting practice working with private and public sector organizations on issues related to occupational health psychology, leadership and human resource management.

According to the Mental Health Commission of Canada, mental health issues are experienced by one in five Canadians and research has documented the expression, and consequences, of this phenomenon at the workplace. The combination of policy, jurisprudence and economic factors has resulted in more and more employers expressing interest in workplace mental health programs. This interest culminated in the publication of a new standard for Psychological Health and Safety at work (CSA Z1003) in cooperation with the Mental Health Commission. In this presentation, I will discuss the standard and outline the three pillars comprising an effective workplace mental health program: prevention, intervention, and accommodation.
